First of all, hey y’all. This ghetto life, part 789. Pardon any typos, my brain hasn’t fully uploaded, yet.
Richmond University Medical Center also known as RUMC is a corporate entity in hospital’s clothing. I have made it clear that ALL corporate entities in ALL healthcare spaces need to be removed NOW. Centering profit over people is causing irreparable damage which is completely preventable. For background, I’ve been in healthcare for a long time. I worked for one of the FIRST Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) in New York City. It was nothing like we’re seeing now. My coworkers were my family. Our social interactions were imperative in the work we do. When I see the corporate nonsense, I call it out. I’m centered for actually speaking up, just like my expectant families are. My clients have been refused basic human compassion, respect & shared decision making at RUMC, which is the sign of an UNETHICAL provider and/or organization, agency or hospital.
I’m sharing my review for RUMC, a “hospital” in my local area. I’ll mention it in the review, but the care is well below subpar. Zero staff to be found. Nurse techs giving medical advice. Severely short staffed yet RUMC has a brand-new ER, showing off that they centered themselves over staff. If they try to deny this, don’t listen to them. Corporate entities lie to cover their asses. They are taught by legal teams to use certain language, stay woke. I was taught to cover things up by my manager on the unit. She taught her staff to do the same. I don’t do it, that’s why I resigned. RUMCs own staff confirmed what I saw too. All my neighbors stay far away from RUMC as well. This is not intended to scare anyone, stand your ground with RUMC if you feel comfortable. Call the patient advocate in if you’re receiving pushback. Each hospital has one. This person will center you and available to help.
I will also add, hospital protocols and policies are meant to work bi-directionally. Why are people getting pushback for speaking up? Hospitals use policies to cover them, not center you. That is unethical behavior. Shared decision making should be taking place across all levels of care.
Also, there’s always that one person that says, why should we believe you when a doctor has way more experience? Go read a book, maybe you’ll find out.
So RUMC, if your staff receives retaliation for something that is UPPER MANAGEMENTs responsibility? That will be yet another violation to add to the very long list of violations RUMC already has. Stay away from this hospital until proves it belongs in our community.
C-suite, Director of Nursing, CEOs, CFOs, the people NOT on the ground doing the real work, where were you when this was going down? In bed. Bank accounts sitting on a multiple zero universe. Collecting money, that’s what they’re doing. With the cleanest lab coats you’ll ever see.
Entities like this will call this harassment. I call that bs, I will use that for evidence as well. Thank you.
Richmond University Medical Center will be handled accordingly AGAIN.
Thank you for being here while I flame these entities. I don’t enjoy this in the least because, see below lol. Life is not easy right now. But I will be reporting Richmond University Medical Center, located on 355 Bard Ave, Staten Island, NY 10310 to the state of New York. Please see their 751 google reviews noting a score of 2.6 out of 5.0. Upper management, I’d adjust this number to zero. Not sure if negative numbers are an option. Me watching this go on for decades? No ma’am/sir/it, upper management can hold this L they’re trying to give us. Hold my beer y’all. Tired of this.
Richmond University Medical Center Review

RUMC doesn’t deserve one star. I wouldn’t take a goldfish here. I’m an RN x 18 years. Healthcare x 25 years. Trust me I know unsafe staffing, below subpar care, extreme chronic burnout amongst the staff we love? That live in our communities.
I’m centering UPPER MANAGEMENT only. All direct staff are excluded. They are not the issue and they shouldn’t be penalized.
The directors of nursing and executive suite, I’m addressing you. If you even attempt to de-center my witnessed account or my next-door neighbor’s experience in an attempted bs response like you care? That’s evidence so don’t try it. My lawyer will be contacting you.
LONG vent: I was admitted for CHEST PAIN that was not triaged in a timely manner, if I came in with a true MI, I don’t think I would’ve survived. Nurse techs doing clinical care & giving medical recommendations? Really? I have proof and witnesses. Inappropriate and unethical.
Next door neighbor (patient) cried for help for thirty minutes. Staff was nowhere to be found. I went to MY neighbor who became my patient. Unit clerk Zuleika was rude and had a flat affect. Do not blame her, she is just showing the effects of RUMCs “care”. Zuleika was stressed out, I didn’t get a feeling she was a bad person. Zero smile. I wouldn’t be smiling if I worked there, either.
Bet you good money her salary is completely below standard for NYCs high cost of living.
A DR finally came. Didn’t look at us, didn’t assess on rounds. Because he didn’t look up, he ended up taking my advice. Ordered meds without looking at me. Yup I’m having chest pain and now I’m an unpaid nurse. Thanks, RUMC. What the hell is this fever dream.
What the Dr did is inherently dangerous. He could lose his JOB for this. Which he SHOULD NOT, again, Zombie behavior is a sign of complete nervous system overwhelm. Upper management responsibility. Dr went to my bed next door, it was empty, I called him and waved, he looked mortified that he didn’t realize what he did. Took order requests for a patient, from a patient, with an IV in place, in street clothes.
Unsafe staffing yet a completely new state of the art ER department with donation plaques in each room. RUMC doesn’t care about a damn soul. They have an entire wall near the exit with so many donations from 25k to 1 million. So they’re showing off that they had the money to pay staff more, offer them proper support, treat them like basic human beings? Mb actually serve the community they’re sitting in WITH love. Yet they didn’t and it’s obvious. But yet, where is the Patient Bill of Rights? I didn’t see that.
Avoid this place at all costs. We have too many EXCELLENT surrounding hospitals to choose from. This isn’t even coming close. Upper management’s responsibility.
I’m climbing the ladder with this until I see some real action from a hospital that looks like more of a corporate entity which is completely disgusting as we are currently in the middle of severe health disparities across our city.
I’ll be in contact with the heads of the hospital and other entities to make 100000% sure no one goes through what my neighbor and I did. Ever. My pregnant families will be directed to another facility from this moment forward until I see a huge change.
PS all the ppl in my area hates this hospital. Now I know why. Almost my first AMA (Against Medical Advice) discharge, thankfully my kind doctor made sure I was ok & discharged me appropriately.
PSS To my fellow healthcare professionals, patients, everyone really. I’m truly sorry that life has gotten like this. Please contact me by email (noted below) if you would like guidance in navigating the healthcare system. I’m praying life gets better for you.
